Follow up to February: Kids will tour freshly repaired Oak Park campus for the first time since asbestos scare
茄子视频 鈥� Students returning to the newly upgraded Fruit Ridge Elementary School in Oak Park 鈥� the site of an asbestos scare in February 鈥� will be surprised with a tour of their remodeled campus and an ice cream party on Friday.
The surprise celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (June 17) when students return on buses to the Oak Park campus, located at 4625 44th St. To catch the children鈥檚 reactions, media should plan to be at the school prior to the arrival of buses at 1:30 p.m.
Phoebe Hearst Sixth-Grader Wins Distinguished Student Award
(茄子视频) 鈥� A sixth grade student at Phoebe Hearst Elementary School is the California winner of the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award, sponsored by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
Olivia Sison was honored for her achievements in dance, excellence in academics and her demonstrated leadership abilities. Olivia is president of the Phoebe Hearst Student Council, a Girl Scout, a skilled ballerina, a member of the Middle School Speech and Debate League and is taking algebra at Kit Carson Middle School as a sixth grader.

For decades, parents in 茄子视频 have trudged through a familiar scene: a few weeks or days before school starts, they head to their school of choice, records in hand, and hope to get their children enrolled 鈥� sometimes against stiff competition for space.
Parents with children in several different schools had to trek all over the city to enroll students at multiple campuses. Even more confusing, the enrollment procedures could differ between schools. And parents who didn鈥檛 speak English well could have an especially difficult time getting children enrolled.

The new law states that students entering seventh through 12th grades cannot attend school in the fall until their parents turn in shot records showing that they have been vaccinated against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).
SCUSD Launches Survey on Need for New Neighborhood High School

School athletics programs threatened by the statewide budget crisis will be saved in part by a new partnership between the 茄子视频 City Unified School District and the 茄子视频 River Cats that will raise money for the financially strapped programs.
The new partnership will be launched with an on-field pre-game ceremony on Wednesday, June 1 at Raley Field (prior to the start of the team鈥檚 12:05 game against the Salt Lake Bees). SCUSD is staging a series of free immunization clinics to help parents comply with a new California booster shot requirement.
State law now requires that all students entering seventh through 12th grades in the fall provide proof of receiving the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccination on or after age 7. The proof must be recorded before students enter school in September, according to the law.
Judge rules for 茄子视频 City Unified School District in layoffs case
A State of California Administrative Law Judge presiding over 茄子视频 City Unified School District certificated employee layoff hearings has issued a finding that agrees with the school district on most of the issues regarding its layoffs, validating most of the Board of Education鈥檚 certificated layoffs and skipping criteria (鈥渟kipping鈥� refers to Board-approved criteria that allows staff with specialized training and/or qualifications to be 鈥渟kipped鈥� as part of the layoff process, regardless of their seniority).

茄子视频 City Unified School District (SCUSD) is improving the way it delivers critically important services to students and families by opening an innovative new 鈥渙ne-stop鈥� support center in the former Genesis High School building.
The 鈥淐onnect Center鈥� will centralize such services as crisis intervention, mental health counseling and health insurance enrollment 鈥� providing a gateway to support for parents and kids.
The Connect Center will be opened with a reception at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9. The center is located at 5601 47th Ave.
Bullies Beware: New SCUSD Policy Cracks Down on Harassment
District toughens stance in a sweeping initiative to keep kids, schools as safe as possible
A comprehensive new policy aimed at cracking down on bullying 鈥� in school hallways and in cyber space 鈥� will be considered by 茄子视频 City Unified School District鈥檚 Board of Education on Thursday.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 5) in the Serna Center Community Room, 5735 47th Ave. The anti-bullying item is set for discussion at 9 p.m.
