Neighbors asked to help protect schools over Memorial Day

Memorial Day may mark the official start of backyard barbecue season, but for school districts, the holiday weekend can be anything but relaxing as vandals, thieves and arsonists take advantage of empty campuses.
In light of this, SCUSD is asking the community for help in keeping schools safe and secure over the three-day break (May 28-30).

鈥淢ost of our schools are surrounded by homes, and we need those neighbors to join us in protecting these valuable and sometimes vulnerable community centers,鈥 said 茄子视频 Police Lt. Katherine Lester, who heads SCUSD security services.

Neighbors are asked to be on the lookout for suspicious activity on SCUSD campuses and to report it. 鈥淭he schools belong to the community,鈥 said Lester, 鈥渁nd we need the entire community to help us guard them.鈥

For schools within 茄子视频 city limits call 264-5471. Residents outside city boundaries should call the county Sheriff鈥檚 Department at 874-5115. School security can also be called 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 643-7444.
