SCUSD Opens $9.3 Million Sports Complex TOMORROW
Luther Burbank High鈥檚 football team to play first home game since 2008
Officially, Luther Burbank High School鈥檚 homecoming is November 4. But TOMORROW (Friday, September 23), the team will literally 鈥渃ome home鈥 when the Titans play their first game in three years on their own turf, thanks to the opening of a new $9.3 million sports complex.
A celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony with student athletes, cheerleaders, the marching band and more will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 23, at the new Sports Complex.
Burbank鈥檚 old football and soccer field was so damaged by ground squirrels that it was unsafe for play. The new field features state-of-the-art artificial turf, a new all-season track, a new scoreboard and bleachers for 2,500. The track is made from 120,000 pounds of recycled rubber 鈥 the equivalent of 71,413 passenger car tires. The complex also includes classrooms, restrooms and a concession stand.
Funding for the project comes from Measure I, a facilities bond passed by district voters in 2002.
鈥淭his is a great day for the Titans and for the entire community,鈥 said Superintendent Jonathan Raymond. 鈥淪ports are often the key to keeping kids in school. Our kids deserve great facilities like this.鈥
鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank to the residents of the City of 茄子视频 for voting to support the Bond Measure in 2002. It provided the funding for this project. And thank you to Burbank students and this community who have waited so long to see this complex become a reality,鈥 said Vice Mayor Bonnie Pannell.
