鈥淲ith the first day of school less than a month away, our students and families are counting on us to work together with SCTA鈥檚 leaders to resolve our labor dispute and avoid any further distractions that take us away from meeting the needs of our students,鈥 said Board President Jessie Ryan. 鈥淢any parents and community members have repeatedly called for round the clock negotiations and the Board agrees that our students deserve nothing less.鈥
The SCTA鈥檚 contract expired on June 30, 2019. Since November 2018 the District has requested SCTA leaders to start negotiations on a new agreement and is proposing the following:
- Ground rules for productive and professional negotiations that are rooted in best practices and similar to the ones that have already been established with other labor partners.
- Bringing the District in line with neighboring school districts and public agencies in California by placing a reasonable cap on the District鈥檚 contribution to health insurance premiums.
- Increasing academic, enrichment and workforce opportunities for students by changing the start date of the academic calendar to align with surrounding districts.
鈥淥ur bargaining team stands ready to meet with SCTA leaders to reach an agreement that allows for increased opportunities for students, is fair to our educators, addresses our fiscal challenges and prepares for future economic downturns,鈥 said Superintendent Jorge Aguilar. 鈥淲e look forward to SCTA leaders鈥 feedback on our proposal.鈥
