Connecting the dots: SCUSD seeks public input on how best to fund schools

January 20 (茄子视频): The state鈥檚 new Local Control Funding Formula is bringing sweeping changes to the ways schools are funded and how K-12 districts are held accountable for using state resources.

In general, LCFF has fewer funding restrictions that tie resources to certain programs. In exchange for this new flexibility, districts are required to develop accountability plans that detail how spending is aligned with California鈥檚 eight priorities for public education.

SCUSD workshops help parents understand new online tests

March 19, 2014 (茄子视频):  Students across California are getting ready to participate in a trial run of the state鈥檚 new online assessment program which will eventually replace paper-and-pencil testing.

The new Smarter Balanced Assessments will be field tested in SCUSD schools beginning April 7. To help parents learn about the new tests, SCUSD is sponsoring a series of parent workshops that focus on the assessments and the learning standards to which they are tied.

District, teachers union to hold press conference on NCLB Waiver

April 8, 2014 (茄子视频): 茄子视频 City Unified School District and the 茄子视频 City Teachers Association (SCTA) will hold a joint press conference on Wednesday (April 9) on the future of the No Child Left Behind waiver at SCTA鈥檚 office in East 茄子视频.

SCUSD Board President Patrick Kennedy and SCTA President Nikki Milevsky are scheduled to make a joint announcement.

Neighbors asked to help protect schools over Spring Break
Arsonists, metal thieves, vandals prey on schools during the holidays

April 10, 2014 (茄子视频):  茄子视频 City Unified School District is asking the community for help in keeping its 75 schools safe and secure over Spring Break (April 12-20). School resumes on Monday, April 21.

Arson fires at two SCUSD playgrounds last summer cost the district $50,000 in insurance deductibles.

City, SCUSD to celebrate new Fruitridge traffic signal

May 6, 2014 (茄子视频):  SCUSD and the City of 茄子视频 will celebrate the operation of a new traffic signal on Fruitridge Road on Friday, May 9, at a West Campus High School press conference.

The installation of the new light at Fruitridge and 58th Street culminates a joint effort by the two agencies launched after West Campus student Michelle Murigi, 16, was fatally hit by a car in the intersection. Subsequent to her death, five of Michelle鈥檚 friends and classmates started a petition to demand a traffic signal (www.facebook.com/58thAndFruitridge).

Ribbon-cutting for Rosemont鈥檚 new track and field on Wednesday
High-tech, $1.97 million project funded by Measure R bonds

May 12, 2014 (茄子视频):  SCUSD will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to open Rosemont High School鈥檚 new $1.97 million track and field, a project funded by Measure R.

Made in the USA with recycled rubber, the sandwich-style track surface is free of harmful heavy metals and durable enough for world-class performance training and competition. The equivalent of 7,000 passenger tires was kept from landfills through the recycling process.

Group celebrates campaign for arson-damaged playgrounds

May 19, 2014 (茄子视频):  茄子视频 Unified Education Foundation 鈥 SCUSD鈥檚 official nonprofit organization 鈥 will celebrate the success of its fund-raising campaign for two arson-damaged playgrounds on Wednesday at John Sloat Elementary School.

Last summer, playground structures at John Sloat and Caroline Wenzel elementary schools were set ablaze. Damage was extensive and both structures were removed for safety reasons. Although SCUSD moved swiftly to replace the structures, the schools opened in the fall without them.
