Group to kick off drive for arson-damaged playgrounds
Donor of significant funding to be revealed at event on Tuesday 鈥 SCUSD鈥檚 first day of school

August 29, 2013 (茄子视频):  茄子视频 Unified Education Foundation 鈥 SCUSD鈥檚 official nonprofit organization 鈥 will kick off fundraising for two arson-damaged playgrounds with an event at Caroline Wenzel Elementary School on Tuesday, SCUSD鈥檚 first day of school.

At the event, the group will reveal a donor who has made a significant contribution toward the $50,000 needed to cover the district鈥檚 costs for replacing playground structures at Wenzel and John Sloat elementary schools.

City, SCUSD announce traffic signal for Fruitridge crossing

September 11, 2013 (茄子视频):  SCUSD and City of 茄子视频 officials announced on Wednesday that they have joined forces to install a traffic signal at a Fruitridge Road crossing where a West Campus High School student lost her life 20 months ago.

Michelle Murigi, 16, was hit by a car in the crosswalk at 58th Street at Fruitridge Road on January 19, 2012, and died from her injuries. Subsequent to her death, five of Michelle鈥檚 friends and classmates started a petition to demand a traffic signal at the intersection (www.facebook.com/58thAndFruitridge).

Event at John Sloat Elementary School TOMORROW aimed at encouraging parents to read with children

That鈥檚 the message John Sloat Elementary School hopes to get across tomorrow with its first annual 鈥淩ead and Feed,鈥 an early morning snack-and-a-book event for parents and children.

鈥淩ead and Feed鈥 begins at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, October 19) in the John Sloat Elementary School cafeteria, 7525 Candlewood Way. Media must check in with the school office on arrival.

City Councilman McCarty, SCUSD to Open New Community Garden
Ribbon-cutting on Saturday to be followed by Camellia Basic School Harvest Festival with the Kings, Fire Department

SCUSD and 茄子视频 City Councilman Kevin McCarty will officially open a new community garden next to Camellia Basic School on Saturday (October 29).

Camellia Park Community Garden, located in the park adjacent to Camellia Basic, will be available for use by the school and neighbors. City Councilman McCarty and SCUSD Board of Education President Gustavo Arroyo will cut the ribbon at the new garden at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

茄子视频 City Unified officials are urging parents to follow common sense safety guidelines this Halloween (Monday, October 31) to ensure a fun, worry-free holiday for students and families.

鈥淲e want to see every student in class on Tuesday morning ready to learn,鈥 said SCUSD 茄子视频 Police Lt. Katherine Lester, who heads SCUSD security services. 鈥淭hat can only happen if adults make sure that kids adhere to rules about safe walking, safe trick-or-treating and safe snacking.鈥

SCUSD Takes Swift Action in Response to Conduct Investigation
Woodbine Elementary School employee immediately removed from campus; parents notified by phone and letter

茄子视频 City Unified School District moved quickly this morning to remove a Woodbine Elementary School preschool program employee from campus in response to allegations of inappropriate conduct.

District officials placed the employee on administrative leave immediately after learning of allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student and a pending police investigation. The district is working closely with police on the investigation.
